7 for 7: Week 6

This week’s breath prayer:  Help me grasp Your incomparable power in me.

Read

…and he said, ‘O Lord, the God of our fathers, are You not God in the heavens? And are You not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand so that no one can stand against You.’    2 Chronicles 20:6

Meditate

Super Heroes all have extraordinary abilities of some sort, but not one hero has them all. They must work to rescue or save in their own power or gift. In a similar way, God has empowered each of us with His gifts and abilities, and when used together, we can do even greater things than Jesus did. Now that’s something to think about!

Pray

God, You rule. You have power to speak and create, touch and heal, reach out and save, show up and rescue. It’s all in Your hands, and You have said it’s all in us because You live in us. Increase our awareness of Your power at work in our lives. And enable us to affect the nations.

Respond

Look at your God-given abilities, strengths and gifts and ask God to energize them by His Holy Spirit.

Ask for a specific place to use them this week to reach out and rescue.

Read

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word with God, and the Word was God. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.   John 1:1-3

Meditate

These verses contain some of the most mind-blowing statements in the entire Bible. John clearly declares that Jesus is God. He was not created by God but is Himself God. Furthermore, John says that all things were created through Christ: all planets, galaxies, earth life forms, angels, and human beings. Amazingly, Christ our Creator, shares His power with us that we may express His creativity in our lives for His glory and the good of others.

Pray

Lord Jesus, I praise You as the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. Open my eyes each day to see Your hand in the stars of the sky, the leaves of the trees, the flowers of the field, and the faces of children. Release Your creativity through the works of my mind and my hands.

Respond

One day this week take a meditative nature walk. Pay close attention to everything of nature that you see and pause to thank Jesus for creating it. Praise Him as the Creator of all things. As you walk further, pray the breath prayer, “Lord, help me grasp Your incomparable power in me.”

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.  Hebrews 1:3

Meditate

We are aware that an interruption of natural power across the globe for an extended length of time would greatly impact most lives. Perhaps little thought is given to the job description of Jesus stated in this text that He sustains all things by His word. Let us give the power contained in the word of Jesus the proper honor, value and place in our lives.

Pray

You have been given the highest place and the name that is above every name. I thank You that You are sustaining all things concerning me by Your powerful word. I ask for a greater understanding of Your power. Reveal the mystery that You spoke and it came to be. Reveal the powerful place of agreement that is mine as I honor Your word.

Respond

A fresh focus on Jesus as our power source goes a long way. Romans 8 tells us that the mind set on what the flesh can do results in death, but the mind set on the Spirit results in life. As we get our eyes off our own power and look at His power by faith, He promises great results. Say this week’s breath prayer as you meditate on this truth.

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O Lord, and this is Your kingdom. We adore You as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from You alone, for You rule over everything. Power and might are in Your hand, and at Your discretion people are made great and given strength.  1 Chronicles 29:11-12

Meditate

Here we see David’s response to the overflow of gifts when the temple was built. He thanked the God who gave abundantly, the One who deserved all the glory. David spoke these high praises so all would know the credit went to God and not to them. David’s focus was on the Lord and not on the large gifts. He wanted his people to know that God powerfully granted all they needed. And His power is available to us as well.

Pray

Father, help me to know that all power of heaven and earth are Yours. You will give to me all I need, and even more. Too often I want the recognition, but You are the One who deserves all praise and honor. You, O God, enable me to give, to pray, to serve and to heal. Teach me these words of praise, and may they ever be on my lips.

Respond

I love how the Lord provided through His people so extravagantly. King David spoke loud praises to God, modeling worship as he proclaimed the power and majesty of God. When something amazing happens, credit the Lord for His provision and goodness in front of others. Recognize it is His power in you that brings such good things.

…His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion…    Eph. 21:19-21

Meditate

The most awesome demonstration of God’s power in history was the resurrection of His Son. Paul astoundingly declares that that very same power–resurrection power–is always accessible to us. Through this “incomparably great power” we can be victorious daily against sin and the Evil One. God’s resurrection power is at work within us through the abiding presence of His Spirit in our hearts. How awesome is that?

Pray

Father, I ask that you enlighten the eyes of my heart that I may know your incomparable power that is accessible to me. Help me to grasp the reality that the same power by which you raised Jesus from the dead is actually within me. And help me to experience more and more the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Respond

Reflect on 2 Peter 1:3a, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life…” Make a list of everything you need to live a Christ-like life today. Thank God that by His power He has already supplied every single need. Ask Him to release the power that is in you for a godly life.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.   2 Corinthians 4:7

Meditate

It is mind-boggling to consider how complicated and intricate the Lord has designed our physical bodies, and yet, these complexities are nothing compared to who He is. And consider this… He, the Mighty Creator of all, lives inside of us! The all-powerful Lord of lords reigns within you! Our “jars of clay” contain King Jesus. He designed us to live in Him, and the equally wonderful flip-side is that He lives in us.

Pray

Lord, help me to stay humble and recognize that everything good about me is due to Your power living and reigning within me. Thank You for choosing me, this “jar of clay,” in which to take up residence. Help me to fully partner with the Holy Spirit to bring Heaven’s power to earth.

Respond

Meditate on what it really means for our “weak selves” to be containers of God’s presence and power. Repeat the breath prayer, “Help me grasp Your incomparable power in me. Reveal that power to the world through me.”

Read

Then will appear the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.  Matthew 24:30

Meditate

Jesus speaks here of His appearance at the end of the age, when we and the whole world will see Him in the fullness of His power and glory. But even now He appears by His Spirit to demonstrate His power to save, heal and deliver. We can experience today His manifest presence in our lives to transform us and to empower us to do His works in this broken world.

Pray

Lord Jesus, I look forward to the full revelation of Your power and glory when You return to earth. I thank You that by the Holy Spirit You make Your power and glory accessible to me today. I ask that You manifest the present reality of Your Kingdom in me and through me here and now.

Respond

Memorize this simple prayer: “Lord, send Your Spirit; send Your Spirit powerfully; send Your Spirit more powerfully.” Recite it at least once a day for the next month. As you do, visualize the effect of the increasing release of God’s power in your life, your family, your church and your community.
