7 for 7: Week 5

This week’s breath prayer: Your presence brings joy and peace.

Read

Romans 15:13 – “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Meditate

When joy and peace are absent in our lives, it is often because we’ve lost the sense of His presence… because in His presence is fullness of joy. Or perhaps we’ve lost our faith due to circumstances or unanswered prayers. It is in these times that we need to encourage each other to make the choice to believe again by the power of His Spirit at work in each one of us.

Pray

Dear Lord, we speak to our downcast souls and we say that our hope is found in You, peace and joy are in Your presence, and Your presence is here with us – now. We will not shrink back in fear, but we will choose to believe by the power of Your Spirit at work within us.

Respond

As you think about what it means to “abound in hope,” try reacting with your body by skipping, clapping, laughing or raising your hands as you realize His presence is with you, bringing you joy and peace.

Read

Isaiah 61:10 – “I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”

Meditate

Although the words joy and peace are often associated with the Christmas season, they perfectly describe the longing of every human heart. We hear so many voices offering solutions to this God-given need. Isaiah speaks of delighting greatly and his soul rejoicing as a result of being clothed with garments of salvation and arrayed in a robe of righteousness. Could our struggle for joy and peace be the result of looking elsewhere or attempting to add to what He has provided?

Pray

Lord, thank You that You provide perfectly for my joy and peace. The pull to look elsewhere is constant so help me to lock eyes on You! Thank You that in His death and resurrection, Jesus clothed me with garments of salvation and righteousness. Please open to me the joy and peace that comes from embracing Your perfect provision.

Respond

The joy and peace Jesus provides is established and unshakable. It is a firm, strong foundation. When strong winds come, this foundation of being clothed in salvation and righteousness will stand and always result in lasting joy and peace. Confess that He has provided perfectly and that you will not look elsewhere or add to His finished work.

This week’s breath prayer: Your presence brings joy and peace.

Read

Psalm 21:6 – “Surely You have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of Your presence.

Meditate

Joy and peace seem to come easy when circumstances in our lives are going well, when the water is smooth like a lake. This can easily evaporate when the storm hits and we are facing uncertainty and fear. Just as Jesus was able to sleep through the storm on the Sea of Galilee, those that are grounded in their trust of God’s goodness and love for them will experience His true joy and peace in the midst of trials and tribulations.

Pray

Heavenly Father, today I declare my trust in You. Help me to seek out and remain in Your presence so I may overcome sadness and fear with joy and peace.

Respond

What storms are you facing in your life right now? Invite the Holy Spirit to come alongside of you so that you can experience His presence. Throughout the day repeat the breath prayer, “Your presence brings me joy and peace.” Find your rest in His presence.

Read

Ephesians 1:3 – “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessings in Christ.”

Meditate

Sometimes God invites you out on a limb, and it’s cool when you see miracles and feel His presence. Sometimes you go out on that limb on your own, and you may still see the miracles and feel His presence – like He’s standing under the tree.  But sometimes you go out on that limb on your own, and He saws off the limb. Then you don’t feel His presence at all. But what’s really cool is that He is there every single time.

Pray

Thank You, Lord, that when I’m abiding in You, my life is filled with joy and peace. Help me to hear Your voice and to obey. And please remind me that You are always there even when I can’t “feel” Your presence.

Respond

Ask the Lord which “limb” He wants you to explore with Him today, and then respond with, “Yes, Lord!” Follow His expert guidance out onto that limb, and enjoy His marvelous joy and peace there.

Read

Matthew 11:28– “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My load is light.

Meditate

Who hasn’t, at one time or another, felt the overburdening cares of the world and this life take its toll on our souls? Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, not as the world gives, do I give to you.” What a tremendous relief!  Nowhere else will we find joy, peace and rest as only our God can give. Take His yoke upon you. In this way He offers to help carry our heavy burdens.

Pray

Lord, help me to be ever mindful of the incredible offer of Your open invitation to take Your yoke upon me. I want to learn daily from You and experience Your heart of humility and gentleness. I thank You that when I am yoked to You, the burdens in my life are much lighter and easier, and I can rest in Your joy and peace.

Respond

As you go through your daily activities and begin to become overworked, exhausted and burdened, pray, “Lord, Your presence brings me joy and peace.”

Remember to cast all your cares, anxieties and worries on Him because He cares for you.

Read

John 14:27– “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Meditate

I love to look at the IKEA catalog – the clean, organized spaces and happy people bring a sense of peace to my scattered brain. I daydream about what it would be like to live there and suddenly feel discontented with my own current reality. But God does not give peace like the world gives; normal life is not perfectly tidy. When I look at my reality from God’s perspective, I can find peace in the midst of the mess.

Pray

Dear God, thank You for everything around me. All that I see and experience is evidence that You are working and alive. I long for Your peace. I need Your peace. Help me to reframe the mess and the frustrations of my life as a way to draw closer to You.

Respond

Today, in your living, breathing reality, ask the Holy Spirit to reframe the mess or frustrations around you. The news, social media or even our own perceptions, do not give the whole picture. We are limited in our understanding. Ask the God of peace for His reality – and be thankful. Let His peace turn you to thankfulness and ultimately joy!

This week’s breath prayer: Your presence brings joy and peace.

Read

Isaiah 26:3– You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.

Meditate

The Lord promises to keep us in perfect peace: inward, outward, peace with Him, peace of conscience, at all times, under all events, when our minds are set upon Him. This happens when we have placed ourselves under His care and rule. Even in daily tasks remember that He is willing, wanting and able to be of assistance. Make the Lord a constant in your mind, and you will receive His peace which surpasses all understanding.

Pray

Lord, thank You for Your peace. Help my mind be steadfastly focused on You. Help my mind to be set upon You in the midst of my daily trials and the busyness of modern life. Let me never forget that You are with me always, and let that knowledge give me peace.

Respond

Throughout this day, repeat the breath prayer, “Your presence brings joy and peace.” As you do, ask the Holy Spirit to make you aware when your peace is waning so that you might take a moment to refocus, to remember, to rejoice in the Lord who is worthy of all love and trust.
